FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What technology is required?

We like to say, if you have a phone, that is all you need! This is true; however, it is much easier if you have a basic computer or laptop with a webcam. High speed internet is recommended but cellular data works just as well. There will be a small amount of writing which equates to one or two paragraphs so having a keyboard may be convenient. However, if you have the technical know-how, you can upload an audio file answering the assignment instead of writing it out.

Does your training meet the NREMT standards for certification?

As a licensed training center in the state of Wisconsin, we adhere to state and national curricula for EMS training. Therefore, we meet the national EMS education standards and completion of our programs qualifies you to obtain your National Registry of EMT’s certification.

Are the initial programs approved by my state's EMS regulatory body?

Integrated EMS Academy is licensed in Wisconsin to provide initial emergency medical responder and emergency medical technician training. If you are from another state you would need to obtain a Wisconsin provider license or certificate in Wisconsin and then reciprocity back to your state of residence. Since every state has its own laws and regulation, we suggest you contact your state regulatory agency to assure this path would be acceptable.

Does your education include new and emerging trends in EMS?

Yes. We follow the current national EMS education standards and current Wisconsin EMS curriculum.

Who are your instructors and what are their credentials?

We contract with different educators to create our content. The qualifications for our educators include a minimum of five years of both field and teaching experience. All of our educators have practiced EMS in urban and rural settings and taught for colleges and universities. We have educators with associate, bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees.

What is my time commitment and how long will this training take?

That is the beauty of our programs and courses. It will take the time it takes for you to learn and demonstrate mastery. As an example, most initial EMR programs take a student 45-100 hours in a traditional setting. Unfortunately, everyone learns at a different pace so that makes classroom training difficult for both slow and fast learners. At Integrated EMS academy that will never be a problem because you learn at your pace. Therefore, it could be less than 45 hours or more than 100 hours. It will all depend on your ability to learn and complete the activities.

Does your program include testing fees for the NREMT exam?

Our programs DO NOT include these fees. Exam fees are paid by the student separately to the NREMT.

If this program is totally online and at my convenience, how do I learn and practice my psychomotor (practical) skills?

We offer unique opportunities for learning. As such, we have several paths for these activities. We encourage and assist in partnering with a local service to help mentor and facilitate skill practice and validation. If we can’t find that opportunity, the student can buy the equipment and practice. As they practice and master the skill, they upload cell phone/computer videos of performance for critique and validation. We will work with our students to assure they obtain the necessary skills mastery for certification.

What textbooks do I need to buy?

Hopefully none! We try to include all necessary information within our courses. In the emergency medical responder program, we use the Wisconsin open-source textbook and link directly to it within the courses. If you are looking for supplemental information or a physical textbook, we recommend Pearson’s Emergency Medical Responder: First on Scene. When the EMT program comes online we will use open resources or Pearson’s Emergency Care for EMT.

Are there time limits for completing courses?

No. Complete them at your pace.

Do I have to attend mandatory lectures or video meetings?

No. We are totally asynchronous which is a fancy word for learning on your own and at your own pace. There are no set schedules or check-in on progress. If you hit it hard for a week and take three weeks off from learning it’s not a problem. The learning is on your schedule. We strongly believe none of the programs should take more than one year to complete and theoretically can be completed within weeks.

What if I need to discuss something with the instructor or I have a question on a topic?

Our courses are self-guided and generally complete. Should you need, or want to reach out to an instructor, they are always available through online forums and email. If you need a little more help, we can always schedule a video meeting or phone call to discuss your needs.
